Today was the first day we worked on our wiki.  I learned how to use and edit our wiki page, from how to add text and pictures to how to change the skins of the wiki.  I spent about 20 minutes searching for various photos and videos.  I found a few photos but no videos.  I also found out that there is not much information on our specific bacteria. I searched several sites from the library site but found nothing of substance.  I searched the free web and got a few better results. My hope is that we can use the free web as much as possible

I am slightly frustrated with this project.  I would much rather prefered if Ms. Tucker had simply given us a test or a essay or even a Solo project.  As a student, I do not want so many angles by which the teacher can take off points.  I guess that's why i like math so much.  Either you know it or you don't, you write the answer and it is either right or wrong, black and white.  With this project, there are so many aspects and angles one can look at and has to prepare for, it is almost impossible to make everything perfect.  This makes it very hard to make a good grade.

I do think Chuck and I are a good team, however.  We both want an A and i think that we will do everything possible to ensure our success.

Today we worked during the entire class on researching our bacteria.  I very, very quickly found that this is no easy project.  There is so much research and time needed to find out everything possible about our "Arthrobacter Globiformis."  Tonight I surfed the web and found 4 very good pages, 2 of which are highly exhaustable.  I hope with these found that we can bite a big chunk off of the work tomorrow and Thursday.

I was pretty annoyed with these journal assignments as well as the timeline assignment.  These journals just cause more work and, in my mind, are simply busy work.  Everything i am recording i am thinking about in my head, so there is absolutely no gain for me in doing these petty journal recordings.  I could be wrong, but i doubt that Ms. Tucker will get around to reading all of these entries anyways. She has 60 students so why make them write these journal entries if she may not even fullly read them herslelf (no offense Ms. T im just expressing my feelings!)  As for the timeline,  while i do think it is important to have a strategy on how to tackle this gargantuous assignment, there is no way to make such a specific guide if we do not know exactly what we are going to be doing.  Things change rapidly. Chuck or myself could get sick, we could find enough material by wednesday, we might not be able to find enough at all.  There are just so many things that will change.  Because of this, i think it is better to keep a GENERAL outline, keeping in mind that things will change.

Ms. Jansen. our "luving" librarian, came to talk to us about our research on our bacteria.  She gave us some direction on how and where to search on our given databases, as well as giving us direction on how to evaluate a free-web page, or a page that was accesed through search on google or one of the various search engines.  She even gave us a basic sheet to help us evaluate the site.  Ms. Jansen seems to genuinly care about our success on this project and want to help us figure everything out.  She had a lot of helpful insight and appears excited to help.

Tonight I just entered my journal and added a few pictures; I tried to do some research but I haven't found anything of substance thus far. Our bacteria is proving very hard to research I must say.  I also edited our guidline for our work.  Tomorrow I hope our team can get a lot of research done and take a big chunk out of this project. Frankly I am pretty worried about our grade on this project; I see so many people with really great looking projects. However, I am pretty sure we will do a good job on this, so I am not that worried.

December 6th

Instead of doing a lab, which we were schedualled to do today, we had a project work day.  Some of the stuff we needed to do the lab hadn't arrived yet; Ms. Tucker had ordered it and it was supposed to be there but it wasn't.  She was pretty mad to say the least.  I was really concerned with the amount of information available about our bacteria, so I went to go talk with Ms. Tucker about it.  She wasn't convinced that there wasn't enough material, so i went to Ms. Jansen to see if she could help me out.  Her and I tried for about 15 minutes to find anything but substance, but to no avail.  I went back to Ms. Tucker with this and talked to her about it some more.

Tonight Ms. Tucker sent me an email, giving us a new bacteria!  I was excited to have a bacteria that had some more information available on it.  I didn't do anything tonight though, because it was my brother's birthday.

December 7th

We did the long waited lab today, concerning antibiotic sensitivity.  We basically took three different paper disks, two with antibiotics on them and one with only water, as a control, and put them on a agar plate with the bacteria swabs.  The two bacteria were E. coli and Staph. epidermidis.  We have a few questions about the lab to do over the weekend, as well as doing some serious research on our NEW bacteria, Streptomyces griseus.  However some of these questions we will not be able to answer because we have to see the results, which we will find out on Monday.

I didn't do any work tonight, as it was FRIDAY!  I just know that this weekend we need to make some serious progress.

December 9th

It is Sunday night and i got home at about 2 or 3 from my brothers celebration.  We have been out of town since Saturday morning so I didn't do any work then.  I did about an hour of researching our bacteria and found about 6 sources which i then took some notes on.  I am confident in these sites and will give them to Bryant tomorrow so he can see them for himself.  I think the plan is going to be for Bryant to upload videos, pictures, text, and make the wiki look good, while i will do most of the research and notes.  He is better at that sort of thing, and frankly i don't trust anyone else to take notes other than myself.

December 10th

Back to school again eh?  We finished the bacteria sensitivity lab today, which was good.  We talked about the procedural errors we had because one of our bacteria didn't grow at all.  Tongiht I took some more notes on two more sources.  I find it much easier to take notes by hand on paper.  Originally, I tried to take notes directly on to the wiki but it didn't work very well.  I kept having to shift back between the notes page and the information page.

I ended up printing all my sources out and highlighting and taking notes on them as well as on a pad of paper.  OnI have found a bunch of good information on our specific bacteria, as well as the family it comes from.  We will have no trouble with coming up with a solid number of sources. Cheers to that!

December 11th

Today is tuesday.  Two days down, three to go. Blah!  Anyways today we had a project work day in class. This was the last in class time we had to work on our project.  From here on out, it is all on our free time.  I think everyone is having a hard time with it, but it helps to see other people's pages to get ideas for one's own.  I didn't do much work today besides enter my notes and do a few corrections on the wiki.  I find the whole wiki system quite boring.

One can't really make the page their own.  We are confined to this simple, slightly boring format which everyone in the ENTIRE grade is using.  This makes it hard to be original and have your own look, your own style.  My hope is that we will mainly be graded based on the educational content of our wiki, not how it looks; that would be highly superficial.  I hated today; I dislike Tuesdays strongly...

December 12th

Today was the first work day on the Bacteria Confirmation lab.  We did motility tests and the MacConkey agar.  The agar smells really bad but i am excited for tomorrow to see the motility tests.  I hate writing these journal entries because I always find myself annoyed when writing.  Oh well it is required.  My group was James, Justin, Bryant, and myself.  I have my doubts about how this will end up but will try never the less.

I didnt do much lab report work tonight.  I felt sick and fell asleep while doing my homework.  I did a little work on the wiki today.  The wiki doesn't look very finished, but I have every bit of information we need.  I just need to put it on the wiki and make it look good.  More tomorrow...

December 13th

Today was the Bacteria Confirmation work day number 2.  I really do not like this lab, mostly because I had a hard time with doing it.  I don't know what i did wrong.  I followed all of the procedure's yet I saw nothing under the microscope.  Tonight I will work on my lab report.

I did not get to work on the wiki tonight as we were assigned a lab report.  I really wanted to do a good job on this one.  It was pretty easy but hard to do without our collected data.  Tomorrow we will work on that I guess.  My group worked pretty well. However Justin was incredibly annoying today.

December 14th

It's Friday!!! This week has been especially long as we all anticipate the winter break.  I think this project was a good idea in that it kept all of us students concentrated on school as this is a big project.  If this had not been assigned I think that everyone would really have a hard time concentrating in school.  Maybe the teachers planned it that way.  I dont know.

Today we finished up our Bacteria lab and turned in our lab reports at the end of the day.  I hated that lab strongly.  Tonight I am not working, which I think no one is because it is Friday.  I am going over to Patrick Cook's house and maybe we will work, but most likely hood is that we will just screw around.  I know I have alot to do this weekend but we should be fine with tomorrow and Sunday to work.  I will write again tomorrow. See you then!

December 15th

I fiddled with the wiki mostly today.  I added some text.  I added some pictures.  Bryant was absent for the morning but I emailed him our site links. He is going to do the bibliography and the web site evaluations.

I felt sort of bad giving Bryant all of the bibliography and the web site evaluations to do.  But I do feel like I have done the majority of research, the hard part.  Therefore I think it is reasonable to ask him to do that.  It is a simple job really.  It may be boring but it doesn't require much effort so I think that he should do it.  I think next project I will elect to do it by myself.  I just don't like working with partners because I dont trust anyone but myself.  It's nothing against Bryant I just prefer to go solo.

December 16th

Everything is coming together today.  We have to email our link and our audience evaluation to ms. tucker by 5.  We are making some finishing touches like adding pics and making it look cool.  I think our color scheme is rad and that will be a big part of how everyone else likes our wiki.  Both Bryant and I had to go to church this morning so we got a somewhat late start but everything is going well.

We have been calling each other and working over the phone really nicely.  We both listen to each other.  We tell each other our own opinions.  However we still listen to one another really well.  We have this thing where I will work on one thing until i get tired of it and then Bryant and I will switch jobs.  Please please please let us get a good grade on this. Amen...
